Synthetic Esters are a class of organic compounds synthesized from carboxylic acids and alcohols, primarily serving as base oils in lubricants. Base oils act as the backbone of lubricants, accounting for over 70% of the finished product. As base oils, synthetic esters allow for molecular structure customization—such as adjusting carbon chain length or incorporating additional elements—to tailor lubricant properties like viscosity and oxidation resistance.
The main types of Synthetic Esters include:Monoesters, Diesters, Polyol Esters. Among these, Polyol Esters (e.g., neopentyl glycol, trimethylolpropane, pentaerythritol, and dipentaerythritol) are primarily used in high-performance lubricants. They exhibit high-temperature resistance, biodegradability, and excellent hydrolytic stability. As advanced ester oils, Polyol Esters offer superior thermal-oxidative stability, extending the lubricant’s operational temperature range by 50–100°C compared to Diesters. Due to their biodegradability, Polyol Esters are not only employed in eco-friendly lubricants but also in formulations like environmentally compatible hydraulic fluids.
